For a Wedding you have five events to dress for. Mehendi, sangeet, haldi, wedding day, reception — each one needs a different outfit, different jewellery, different look. And somehow you need to figure it all out while also planning the rest of your wedding.
We've helped dozens of brides and grooms plan their wedding wardrobes. Here's the complete checklist we use — so nothing gets missed.
The Bride's Checklist
Mehendi

- Sharara set or light lehenga in yellow, green, or a bright colour
- Floral jewellery (real or artificial) — maang tikka, earrings, bangles
- Juttis or kolhapuris (you'll be sitting for hours, skip the heels)
- Light dupatta that won't get in the way of mehendi application

Sangeet/Cocktail

- Statement lehenga or Indo-western gown
- Heavy earrings and a cocktail ring
- Heels (this is the event to go all out)
- Clutch bag
- Hair accessories if doing an updo
Haldi
- Simple yellow or white salwar suit or saree
- Minimal jewellery (it'll get messy)
- Waterproof makeup is a must
- Comfortable footwear — flats only
Wedding Day

- Bridal lehenga (red, maroon, or your colour of choice)
- Full bridal jewellery set — necklace, earrings, maang tikka, nath, bangles, haath phool
- Bridal heels (comfortable ones — you'll be standing for hours)
- Dupatta pins and safety pins (at least 10)
- Emergency kit: safety pins, tissues, touch-up makeup, breath mints

Reception

- A different lehenga, gown, or heavy saree
- Statement jewellery (different from wedding day)
- Heels or embellished sandals
- Evening clutch
The Groom's Checklist
Mehendi/Haldi

- Printed kurta pajama or a simple kurta set
- Mojris or kolhapuris
- No need for heavy jewellery — keep it simple
Sangeet/Cocktail

- Bandhgala suit, Jodhpuri suit, or a well-fitted blazer with trousers
- Pocket square and brooch for a polished look
- Dress shoes or loafers
- A good watch — this is when people notice
Wedding Day

- Sherwani or achkan with churidar/dhoti
- Safa/pagdi (turban)
- Sehra if needed
- Dupatta or stole
- Mojris that match the sherwani
- Kalgi, brooch, mala, and sword (depending on tradition)
Reception

- Indo-western suit, tuxedo, or a different sherwani
- Dress shoes
- Cufflinks and tie/bow tie if going western
Things Most People Forget
- Outfit for the ring ceremony — if it's a separate event
- Outfits for family photos — sometimes taken a day before
- Something comfortable for after the wedding — you'll change at 2 AM, have something ready
- Innerwear that works with each outfit — strapless bras, specific petticoats for lehengas
- Matching accessories for every outfit — not just jewellery, but bags, shoes, dupattas
- Alteration timeline — heavy lehengas need 2-3 fittings, start early
- Steaming/ironing — someone needs to handle this the morning of each event
How Much Should You Budget?
Here's a realistic breakdown for a Delhi wedding:
- Bride's complete wardrobe: ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000+ (depending on designer vs market)
- Groom's complete wardrobe: ₹30,000 to ₹2,00,000+
- Accessories & jewellery: ₹10,000 to ₹1,00,000+
- Alterations: ₹2,000 to ₹10,000
The biggest mistake? Spending 80% of the budget on the wedding day outfit and scrambling for everything else last minute.
The Smart Way to Do Wedding Shopping
Most people shop for each event separately. They go to the market five different times, from five different shops, and end up with outfits that don't have any visual connection.
A smarter approach is to plan the entire wardrobe together:
- Pick a colour palette for all events
- Make sure no two outfits feel like they belong to a different person
- Buy accessories that can be mixed across events
- Plan the groom's outfits to complement the bride's
This is exactly what our wedding stylists do.
